NSFAS Funding South Africa 2017 – 2018
The NSFAS (National Student Financial Aid Scheme) is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training. The NSFAS is a bursary and loan scheme for students who lack the financial resources to further their tertiary studies and who do not qualify for study loans and other bursary programmes.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR NSFAS FUNDING?
The NSFAS will only provide financial assistance for:
South African undergraduate students, who are studying (or intend on studying) at a recognised University or TVET College (NOT applicable to University students).
Please do NOT apply if:
a) You have already applied online at NSFAS (www.nsfas.org.za).
b) You have applied for NSFAS through a TVET college before 12 May 2017.
c) You have already received NSFAS funding for 2017.
HOW TO APPLY
You will first need to register your account on the NSFAS website (http://my.nsfas.org.za) – this will take around 30 minutes.
Once you have successfully registered your personal online account, you can download and complete the NSFAS TVET Application Form (second semester) (.pdf)
WHAT DOCUMENTS MUST I SUBMIT?
A full list of the required supporting documentation can be found on the NSFAS Supporting Document Checklist (pdf), it includes:
- South African ID document/ ID card/ unabridged birth certificate (certified copy)
- Parents/ guardians and other household members South African ID documents (certified copies)
- Matric certificate, if you have completed Matric (certified copy)
- Latest academic record/ results on tertiary letterhead, if currently at University or a TVET college (certified copy)
- Proof of residence (instructions can be found on the checklist)
WHERE MUST I SUBMIT MY APPLICATION?
Complete application forms and supporting documentation must be submitted to:
National Student Financial Aid Scheme
Loans and Bursaries Service Unit
Private Bag X4

Alternatively, you may submit your application form and supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office at your closest public TVET college.
