ABOUT THE COMPANY – WCDOA / EATI

The Western Cape Department of Agriculture provides the Western Cape province with a range of development, research and support services. The agricultural sector allows for economic growth and enables creation of sustainable job opportunities within the province.

The Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute (EATI), founded in 1898, was the first agricultural college within South Africa. The EATI provides bachelor degree studies within the Agriculture field, in association with the University of Stellenbosch’s Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences.

The EATI provides training, education and skills to learners who intend on specialising in agricultural production training. The institute is a Chief Directorate of the Western Cape Department of Agriculture.
 

ABOUT THE WCDOA / EATI BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Western Cape Department of Agriculture (WCDoA) is inviting students to apply for bursary funding, at the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute (EATI), for the 2024 academic year.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies towards the following qualifications:

  • B.Agric Degree
  • Diploma in Agriculture
  • Equine Studies

The main study fields in the B.Agric degree are: Plant Production, Animal Production, Plant and Animal Production, Cellar Technology, Cellar Management, Extension and Plant Production and Extension and Animal Production. Download the prospectus here.

The Diploma in Agriculture programme is a three-year course specialising in one of four study field options: Plant Production, Animal Production, Plant and Animal Production or Cellar Technology. Download the prospectus here.

Equine Studies follows the Equine Qualifications Authority of South Africa (EQASA) syllabus. Modules 1 to 3 cover all aspects of horse care and stable yard management. The modules are progressively studied and assessed; a successful learner at Module 3 will be qualified to run a stable yard. Download the prospectus here.

Successful applicants will be contacted during November 2023. Applicants who do not receive any feedback by 31 January 2024, should consider their applications as unsuccessful.

Bursary recipients may not be receiving more than one bursary with service obligations.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE WCDOA / EATI BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be studying or intend on studying at the Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute (EATI), towards one of the courses listed above
  • You must meet the minimum admission requirements for studies at EATI:
    • B.Agric degree (M +3 years):
      • You must complete Matric (NSC) with admission to bachelor’s degree studies
      • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 55% in Matric (excluding Life Orientation)
      • You must have achieved a minimum result of level 4 (50%) for Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language)
      • You must have achieved a minimum result of level 4 (50%) for Mathematics or level 5 (60%) for Mathematics literacy
      • You must have achieved a minimum result of level 4 (50%) for Physical Sciences OR Life Science OR Agricultural Sciences
    • Diploma in Agriculture (M + 3 years):
      • You must complete Matric (NSC) with admission to diploma studies
      • You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 40% in Matric (excluding Life Orientation)
      • You must have achieved a minimum result of level 3 (40%) for Afrikaans or English (Home Language or First Additional Language)
      • You must have achieved a minimum result of level 3 (40%) for Mathematics or level 4 (50%) for Mathematics literacy
      • You must have achieved a minimum result of level 3 (40%) for Physical Sciences OR Life Science OR Agricultural Sciences
      • OR
      • Old school curriculum: you must have completed a Senior Certificate with a minimum overall average of 40% and a minimum of 40% for SG for Biology or Science or Mathematics
    • Equine Studies (M + 1 years):
      • You must complete Matric (NSC)
  • Preference will be to: previously disadvantaged students, including female applicants, black applicants and those with disabilities, as well as applicants with a financial need

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results and Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completyd Matric (certified copy)
  • Academic records, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • Certificates of qualifications completed (certified copy)
  • Proof of registration, if available (certified copy)
  • Parents or guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Parents/ guardians proof of income (3 months recent payslips if employed, statement if unemployed, proof of SASSA grant income if applicable, death certificates if deceased)
