Mick Leary Educational Trust Bursary South Africa 2021 – 2022

ABOUT THE BURSAR

Epilepsy South Africa, formerly known as “South African National Epilepsy League (SANEL)” is the only NPO within South Africa that assists people with epilepsy and other disabilities, by helping them gain the skills and knowledge to work in the labour market.

Because of the prejudice towards people with epilepsy within the work force, they often find it extremely challenging to find employment. As a result, Epilepsy South Africa created the Mick Leary Educational Trust. Professor Mick Leary was a former Epilepsy South Africa Chairperson, epilepsy expert and Paediatric Neurologist.

The aim of the Trust is to help give people with epilepsy a chance to further their studies and gain the skills they need to enter the labour market.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

The bursary programme is intended for students with epilepsy, who have been accepted to study at a tertiary institution. The bursary covers all fields of study, but would like to encourage students to follow a career in which they are interested in and for which there is great demand in the South African labour market.

Financial need (of the applicant, their parents and guardians), academic records and community involvement will also be assessed before bursaries are awarded.
