ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER – LGSETA

The Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) are responsible for creating and implementing skills development interventions to assist local government employees, those working within the local government structures and the unemployed.

The LGSETA falls under the executive authority structure of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and is one of 21 SETA’s in South Africa.
 

ABOUT THE LGSETA BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The LGSETA is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme, for the 2024 academic years.

The Discretionary Grants Bursary 1st Funding Window is aimed at studies within fields related to the sector priority occupations and interventions (SPOI) List, including the following qualifications:

  • Accounting/ Financial Accounting/ Management Accounting/ Accounting Science (Honours/ Bachelor)
  • City/ Regional Planning/ City Planning and Urban Design/ Urban and Regional Planning/ Town and Regional Planning/ Development Planning (Masters)
  • Civil Engineering (N4, N5 & N6)
  • Civil Engineering (specialisations: Environmental; Construction Management; Water; Transport; and Urban Engineering) (Bachelor/ Diploma)
  • Civil Engineering Technologist (specialisations: Environmental; Construction Management; Water; Transport; and Urban Engineering) (Bachelor/ Diploma)
  • Computer Science/ Computer Science and Information Systems/ Computer Science and Information Technology (Honours/ Bachelor)
  • Disaster Management (Masters)
  • Electrical Engineering (N4, N5 & N6)
  • Electrical Engineering (Honours/ Bachelor/ Advanced Diploma)
  • Engineering Management (Master of Engineering)
  • Environmental Management/ Environmental Science in Disaster Risk Reduction/ Environmental Planning and Development/ Environmental Science/ Environmental Engineering/ Environmental Health (Honours/ Advanced Diploma/ Bachelor)
  • Financial Management (N4, N5 & N6)
  • Information Technology related/ Information Technology in Support Services/ Information Technology Management (Honours/ Bachelor/ Advanced Diploma)

  • Public Accountability (Advanced Diploma)
  • Public Administration/ Public Administration and Management/ Adaptive Leadership (Advanced Diploma/ Honours/ Bachelor)

LGSETA aims to award 350 bursaries for the 2023/ 2024 academic year.

The awarding of bursaries will depend on the following factors: availability of funds and candidates meeting all the criteria as per the programmes funding criteria, policies, and procedures.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LGSETA BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen or a permanent resident in South Africa
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards one of the above qualifications in 2024
  • You must be studying or accepted/ provisionally accepted to study at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology or TVET Institution)
  • You must be unemployed

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your application (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application may be disqualified):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric latest results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Most academic records, if currently studying (certified copy)
  • Last years academic tertiary results, if a continuing student (certified copy)
  • Proof of registration/ acceptance, if a new learner entering tertiary studies (on institutions letterhead)
  • Proof of residence and enrollment form, if already studying (on institutions letterhead)
  • Proof of unemployment (Affidavit)

Note: all supporting documents must be certified and not older than 6 months.
