ABOUT THE BURSAR

AVI Limited own some of South Africa’s biggest household brands, from cosmetics, fashion, shoes and accessories, to hot bevarages, biscuits, snacks and convenience foods.

In partnership with Studietrust, AVI are offering bursary awards to students with specific fields – please read all the details below.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

Bursaries will be awarded within 3 categories:

  • Engineering and Commerce (degree studies)
  • Engineering and Food Technology (diploma studies)
  • TVET College study programmes (FET Colleges)

 

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must meet the following minimal criteria before applying (please note that the criteria differs according to the 3 aforementioned categories):
Engineering and Commerce (degree studies):

  • South African citizen,
  • Commerce students:
    • Intend on studying a full-time undergraduate degree in Finance or Marketing,
    • Intend on studying at one of the following universities: University of Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria or the University of KwaZulu-Natal,
    • Completed Matric (with degree study criteria),
    • Achieved a minimum average of 60% or level 5 for English FAL and Mathematics OR a Matric Exemption with a minimum “C” symbol for English FAL and Mathematics.
  • Engineering students:
    • Intend on studying a full-time undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering,
    • Intend on studying at one of the following universities: University of Witwatersrand, University of Johannesburg, University of Pretoria or the University of KwaZulu-Natal,
    • Completed Matric (with degree study criteria),
    • Achieved a minimum average of 60% or level 5 for English FAL, Mathematics and Physical Science OR a Matric Exemption with a minimum “C” symbol for English FAL, Mathematics and Physical Science.

Engineering and Food Technology (diploma studies):

  • South African citizen,
  • Intend on studying a full-time undergraduate National Diploma or B Tech qualification in Food Technology, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering,
  • Intend on studying at one of the following universities: University of Johannesburg, Vaal University of Technology, Tshwane University of Technology or the Durban University of Technology,
  • Completed Matric (with diploma study criteria),
  • Achieved a minimum average of 50% or level 4 for English FAL, Mathematics and Physical Science OR a Matric Exemption with a minimum “D” symbol for English FAL, Mathematics and Physical Science.

TVET College study programmes (FET Colleges):

  • South African citizen,
  • Intend on studying a full-time National Certificate, Diploma or N4-N6 in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Millwrights Engineering,
  • Intend on studying at a South African TVET College.

 

HOW TO APPLY

Eligible students must apply online at: http://www.studietrust.co.za (between 1 May and 30 September annually).

The following documents will be required to support your online application:

  • ID document (certified copy),
  • Parents/ guardians/ spouse proof of income (employment letter/ payslips) (certified copy),
  • A letter about your life (written by the applicant themselves),
  • Parents/ guardians/ friends may write recommendation letters,
  • Two testimonials (one from an education official – principal or lecturer and the other one by a community leader),
  • Current tertiary students must add:
    • Matric results certificate (certified copy),
    • Latest tertiary results (certified copy),
  • Applicants who are not currently studying: include your most recent exam results (certified copy) and a letter explaining what you are doing in the current year.

 

CLOSING DATE

30 September annually
