Basil Read, founded by Basil Leonard Read in 1952, is now a powerful brand and major role player in the building sector of South Africa. The companies operations include Roads; Developments (large scale mixed-use housing developments); Construction (Buildings, Civil and Plant); as well as Mining (opencast mining, surface contract mining and related services)

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED & COVERAGE VALUE

The Basil Read bursary programme was initiated to help financially needing students to follow their dreams and continue their studies in light of their financial positions. Bursaries will be awarded within the following fields of study:

  • Civil Engineering (BSc/ BEng)
  • Mining Engineering (BSc/ BEng/ National Diploma)
  • Quantity Surveying (BSc/ BSc Hons)

 

The following expenses will be covered by the bursary award: registration fees, tuition, prescribed textbooks, stationery, accommodation and meals.
 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • South African citizen
  • Completed Matric
  • Studying within one of the aforementioned fields of study (second or later year of study)
  • Studying full-time at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Achieved high results in Mathematics and Science
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about a career within the built environment

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate (certified copy)
  • Latest tertiary academic results (certified copy)
  • Proof of enrollment in one of the above fields of study
  • Quote for all study fees from tertiary institution
